Travel Tech – from Poolside Workers to Intrepid Explorers

Travel Tech - boys on holiday floating on inflatables in a swimming pool

As the holiday season starts and many of us turn on OOO, we thought it timely to look at travel tech and the gadgets that can enhance your holiday experience.

Whether you‘re heading off somewhere exotic or simply relaxing on the beach, our tech twosome, Adam and Daniel, have put together some tips on what to pack.

Taking the Right Tech
Not all holiday-goers will be switching off completely – a recent survey reported that 53% of employees worked at least once during annual leave.1 As working while on holiday becomes more common, it’s worth giving some thought to the equipment you’ll need.

Explained Adam: “If you’re just opening and answering emails, then a smartphone will be fine. But if you‘re creating and editing documents, then you’re probably going to need your laptop, which has the relevant applications.

“It’s also about where you’re working. iPhones are water-resistant and will withstand splashes – you may also want to consider investing in a waterproof case if you’ll be taking your phone into the water. Computers however detest water and even a small amount can damage them. Whatever equipment you take, you’ll need to make sure you have the necessary chargers and adapters and it’s often a good idea to have a pouch to store them all.”

An Alternative to iPhones
Despite the dominance of smartphones, digital cameras are having a resurgence. Sales figures back-up this trend, with Japanese retailers reporting the first growth in camera sales in 13 years, with a 6% increase.2 Investing in a good camera, rather than relying on an iPhone, is worth considering. An avid photographer himself, Daniel recommends these two models for happy snapping.

Off-Grid Communication
Forget the handsets used in 1980s inspired ‘Stranger Things’, modern day walkie-talkies are state of the art pieces of kit. For those planning an adventurous trip to a remote location, the Aleck Off Grid walkie-talkie is one to pack. Ideal for hiking, camping and water activities, the Aleck uses Bluetooth to provide long-range two-way communication, so when you have no phone signal you can keep connected.

Travelling Light
If you want to keep packing to a minimum, invest in a YOYOVAC – a vacuum packing system that uses compression power to squeeze bulky clothes, jackets, and items into carry-on size.
