Lifeline IT’s Cyber Safe Guidance
Published: 15 May 2025

Cyber attacks have been all over the media recently following attacks on M&S, the Co-op and Harrods.
However, these kind of breaches are not new and companies are being targeted every day.
- Use unique complex passwords, preferably with use of a password management tool.
- Use multi-factor (MFA) authentication on all applications and systems.
- Beware of any calls or messages requesting MFA codes or asking you to provide any credentials.
- Remember phishing attacks aren’t confined to email, they could be phone calls, Microsoft Teams messages from external parties and WhatsApp messages too.
- Request to be removed from access to applications or areas of data that you don’t need.
- Network and data segmentation helps reduce the impact of cyber attacks.
- Older legacy systems are often more vulnerable to attacks and more difficult to restore in the event of an incident.
- Back-up regularly and test it works.
- Disaster recovery plans and testing are critical. As is training across the entire organisation.
- Rapid reporting of anything that looks suspicious.
We offer training in cyber security, disaster planning and staff awareness. Contact one of the Lifeline IT team to find out more.
