Meet Lifeline IT’s Perry van Bergenhenegouw
Published: 21 August 2023
Since Lifeline IT launched its Amsterdam office at the start of the year, we’ve been building a team of engineers and support staff that can service existing and new clients across Europe.
We chat to our latest member of the team, 23 year old Perry van Bergenhenegouw about being part of Lifeline IT.
I’m an associate engineer. I’m mostly responsible for our clients across Europe, but also provide support and back-up to the UK team if they’re particularly busy.
What did you do before you joined Lifeline IT?
I worked at a smaller IT company in The Hague, which is about an hour’s train journey from Amsterdam. Before that I was at University – the Technical College in Rotterdam – studying Network Management.
How are you finding Lifeline IT?
It’s a great company and I am so surprised at how well organised everything is – we never had this at my previous job. I love the fact that everything is properly planned and thought through – we take the time to do thorough risk assessment and project management. In places I’ve worked at before it’s always been a bit more chaotic.
Everyone in both the Amsterdam and UK offices have been so friendly and helpful, which is such a positive when you start somewhere new.
What do you enjoy about the role?
I like the problem solving aspect and the fact that you have to try and find out what the issue is and then come up with a way to fix it. You often have to work out what is causing a particular problem through a process of elimination. You also have to think outside of the box – sometimes it can be something you’ve never encountered before that is causing an issue.
What’s the most challenging aspect of what you do?
It can be difficult trying to explain something very technical to someone who doesn’t have the same depth of technical knowledge as an engineer. But that’s our role as engineers – to try and simplify things for the client and not confuse them with lots of tech-speak.
And finally, what do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I’m really into longboarding – it’s a slightly larger version of a skate board. They can get up to speeds of 50/60 km per hour, which is pretty fast. I also produce music – mostly hip hop – and like going to festivals and concerts. And like most IT people, I enjoy gaming!
Don’t forget to listen to our latest podcast series, also available in video. Titled ‘Analogue vs Digital’, Adam and Daniel go head-to-head debating whether new technology and innovation really do beat more traditional forms of tech. Listen and watch here:
