Roberto Capotosti, Senior Engineer

Dealing with technical issues and advising clients on the best IT systems for their organisation are just part of Roberto Capotosti’s role as senior engineer.

We talk to Roberto, who joined the company in 2013, about his working life at Lifeline IT.

Tell us more about your role?
I’m a senior engineer and I look after around 10 clients. I also work with the new engineers when they start so they can shadow me and learn how we do things. I joined Lifeline IT in 2013 when I moved to the UK from Italy – I went to another IT company to get some more experience but came back to Lifeline IT in 2021. I enjoy the face-to-face interaction we have with clients and we are more than just an IT provider – with many clients we act as their IT manager, advising them on what systems will work best for their business.

What do you enjoy about the role?
The technical part – you’re constantly learning new things every day. I also enjoy the human interaction – going on site, meeting people and helping them solve problems and come up with new solutions.

Any dislikes about the job?
I think it’s probably the travel delays when you’re going to work on site – there’s often train delays which can be frustrating when you just want to get there and start the job.

What aspects of your role are you proud of?
I’d probably say I’m very good with documentation, which for a managed service provider (MSP) is very important. I also like to think I’m good at interacting with people and creating trust with clients and colleagues.

What do you like about working at Lifeline IT?
I’d have to say it’s the owners, Daniel and Adam – I joined the company because of them and came back in 2021 because of them. There are many IT companies but the relationship with Daniel and Adam is special and I like their style of working. They are very understanding and try their best to help people grow and develop within the company.

And finally, what do you enjoy doing when you’re not in work?
I like to travel – one of the reasons I moved to the UK was so that I could see new places. I love to just take a map and go and visit cities and places in the UK. Also, I know this is probably boring and typical of an IT person, but I like coding! At the moment I’m into robotics Lego – you can buy the robot to assemble and then use code to get it to work.
